Family Action Awarded SENDIAS Service Contract by Walsall Council

Walsall Council has awarded the contract for its Special Educational Needs and Disability Information, Advice and Support (SENDIAS) Service to Family Action.

The service is a statutory requirement under the Children and Families Act 2014 and ensures that disabled children and young people, children and young people with special educational needs, and their parents have access to an impartial Information, Advice and Support (IAS) service.

The service supports independence and self-advocacy, enabling children, young people and parents to participate effectively in discussions and decisions relating to education, health and care provision.

The contract has a value of £650,000 excluding VAT (£780,000 including VAT) and is expected to run from 7 September 2026 to 6 September 2029, with the option to extend by 2 x 12 months, potentially taking the contract through to 6 September 2031.

Competitive Procurement

The contract was awarded following an open procedure under the Light Touch Regime.

A total of six tenders were received, with four tenders assessed at the final stage. Of those final-stage submissions, fourwere submitted by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and two by voluntary, community and social enterprises (VCSEs).

The award decision was made on 15 July 2026, with assessment summaries issued to tenderers on 24 July 2026. The earliest date the contract may be signed is 20 August 2026.
