Durham County Council has selected County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust to deliver its Community Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Service under a contract valued at £1.5 million, including VAT.
The service aims to protect County Durham residents by reducing infection risks through expert advice, guidance, training and interventions across healthcare, social care, education and other community settings. These include GP surgeries, care homes, children’s residential homes, domiciliary care providers, adult day care settings and schools, with a priority focus on special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) schools.
The contract will also provide assurance and oversight to the Director of Public Health that infection prevention and control arrangements are in place and that quality standards for managing healthcare-associated infections are met.
The award decision was made on 23 October 2026 through a direct award procedure. The contract is estimated to run from 1 December 2026 to 30 November 2028, with a possible 24-month extension, subject to commissioner and budget approval. If extended, the contract could run until 30 November 2030.
The notice lists 30 November 2026 as the earliest date the contract will be signed. The award decision therefore precedes the stated signing date.
