NHS Trust Awards Pharmacy Quality Assurance Contracts Across Two Service Areas

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has awarded two contracts for the provision of Pharmacy Quality Assurance (QA) Services covering pharmacy sites in Chelsea and West London.

Awarded following an open procedure, the contracts cover Quality Management Systems and Environmental Monitoring, with both agreements running from 31 July 2026 to 30 July 2028. Each contract includes the option to extend for a further 12 months, subject to written agreement by both parties.

Lot 1 – Quality Management Systems has been awarded to Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Hospital. The contract is valued at £204,000 excluding VAT (£244,800 including VAT) and covers a range of quality assurance activities, including GMP audits, quality management reviews, audit support, microbiological data review, specialist advice, and the release of unlicensed medicines and specials.

Lot 2 – Environmental Monitoring has been awarded to Mid South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. Valued at £138,447.78 excluding VAT (£166,137.33 including VAT), the contract includes microbiological environmental monitoring, bacterial identification, validation sampling, air sampling, particle counts, staff training and quarterly contract review meetings.

Each lot received two tenders, with both bids progressing to the final assessment stage. No tenders were submitted by SMEs or VCSE organisations.

The contracts were awarded on 20 July 2026, with assessment summaries issued the same day. Following the standstill period, the earliest date the contracts may be signed is 31 July 2026.

The Trust also confirmed that Lot 3, which combined the Quality Management Systems and Environmental Monitoring requirements into a single contract, will not be awarded. The decision not to award the combined lot was made on 28 May 2026.
