Kingsmith Care in West London has received its second outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an inspection in September.
The agency, operated by Kingsmith Care Ltd, provides personal care to adults of all ages, including people living with dementia, physical disabilities and mental health needs, as well as autistic people and those with learning disabilities. However, CQC noted that no autistic people or people with learning disabilities were receiving support at the time of the inspection, so these aspects of care were not assessed.
The inspection formed part of the regulator’s ongoing monitoring of adult social care services. CQC rated the agency outstanding for caring and leadership, while safety, effectiveness and responsiveness were rated good.
CQC inspectors found that staff provided personalised support designed to help people maintain their independence, pursue their interests and remain connected with their communities.
The regulator highlighted examples of staff adapting care schedules so people could continue taking part in activities such as swimming, concerts and bingo. Relatives also reported positive experiences, with feedback indicating that the support had improved people’s quality of life and helped them continue living at home.
Inspectors found that people were involved in decisions about their care and felt listened to and safe. Care plans included different communication approaches, such as visual prompts and environmental adjustments, to help people with communication difficulties express their preferences.
Staff also maintained continuity of care, helping people build relationships with familiar carers. The agency worked with external healthcare professionals to arrange referrals, support medical appointments and respond to changing needs.
Inspectors praised the agency’s leadership, particularly its investment in staff training, supervision and wellbeing.
CQC found that leaders regularly reviewed care practices and introduced improvements, including changes to medicines management and incident responses. Medicines were supported by appropriate audits, assessments and staff training.
The inspection also found that leaders assessed risks within people’s homes and responded promptly when additional support was needed. This included arranging specialist equipment and working with occupational health teams to support people returning home from hospital.
Detailed care records and personalised plans addressed people’s nutrition, hydration, mobility, personal care and wider wellbeing.
Amanda Partington-Todd, CQC deputy director of adult social care in London, said the inspection recognised the commitment of staff and leaders to compassionate, individualised care and continuous improvement.
The second outstanding rating reflects the agency’s performance in caring and leadership, alongside good ratings across its remaining assessed areas.
