Four finalists have been shortlisted for a public award recognising exceptional compassion and dedication across NHS services in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.
Patients and residents are now being invited to choose the winner of the Public Recognition Award, part of the first Moving to Excellence Awards held jointly by Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust and The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.
The finalists include the fertility team at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, which was nominated after staff secured medication, rearranged appointments and created an additional theatre slot during a treatment crisis.
Jackie Garbett, a sister at Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust, has been recognised for her contribution as a nurse, mentor and role model. Her nomination highlights the support she has provided to patients and colleagues, as well as her influence on the careers of other nurses.
Also shortlisted is the trust’s palliative care team, whose pain management, coordination and emotional support helped a patient and their family following a terminal cancer diagnosis.
Healthcare assistants Tracy Diver and Cheryl Jackson complete the shortlist. They were nominated for the compassionate and dignified care they gave a patient during the final days of his life, alongside the reassurance they offered his family.
Jo Williams, group chief executive, said the awards celebrated the commitment of NHS colleagues working in hospitals and community services. She described the Public Recognition Award as particularly special because patients and members of the community choose its recipient.
Voting will remain open until noon on Friday 16 October. Members of the public can cast their vote online, with the winner due to be announced at the Moving to Excellence Awards on Friday 23 October.
