Mansfield Supported Living Rated Outstanding Across All Areas in First CQC Inspection

A supported living service in Mansfield has been rated Outstanding across all five inspection areas following its first inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Mansfield Supported Living, operated by Eden Supported Living Limited, provides support to autistic adults and people with learning disabilities living in supported accommodation. At the time of the inspection, the service was supporting six people across five properties.

The inspection was carried out using the CQC’s Right Support, Right Care, Right Culture framework, which assesses whether services enable autistic people and people with learning disabilities to live with dignity, choice, independence and equal access to their local communities.

The service achieved Outstanding ratings for:

• Safe
• Effective
• Caring
• Responsive
• Well-led

Inspectors found staff had a detailed understanding of each person’s individual needs, communication preferences, personal history and aspirations, allowing support to be tailored to help people achieve greater independence.

The report highlighted several examples of positive outcomes, including one person previously described as non-verbal developing meaningful verbal communication through consistent, personalised support. Another individual, who had previously lived an isolated lifestyle, was now accessing their local community every day.

The CQC also praised the provider’s approach to positive risk-taking, finding that people were encouraged to pursue holidays, new experiences and personal goals while receiving the support needed to do so safely.

Other examples of outstanding practice included:

• Reviewing historic care plans and assessments to ensure they reflected people’s current abilities and promoted independence.
• Supporting a person who had experienced self-neglect to make gradual improvements to their health and wellbeing through patient, person-centred care.
• Involving people directly in recruitment decisions and staff recognition programmes, ensuring they influenced how the service was run.
• Supporting people to manage their own medicines wherever possible to build confidence and independence.
• Creating a positive workplace culture where staff felt supported, listened to and empowered, helping to maintain a motivated workforce focused on achieving positive outcomes.

Inspectors also found the leadership team worked closely with healthcare professionals and specialist services to secure additional support, including funding for community activities, day services and increased one-to-one care where required.

The CQC said the service demonstrated exceptional person-centred care, strong leadership and a commitment to helping people lead more independent and fulfilling lives.
