WorkWell: An early intervention work and health assessment service

NHS Dorset Integrated Care Board, working as a Cluster ICB with NHS Somerset and NHS Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire, is seeking supplier(s) to deliver the WorkWell: An early intervention work and health assessment service through a competitive tender process.

The WorkWell service is a nationally funded initiative led by the Department for Work and Pensions and the Department of Health and Social Care. It is designed to support working-age adults with a disability or long-term health condition that affects their ability to start, stay in, or return to work. This includes people at risk of sickness absence or job loss, individuals currently on sick leave, and those who are economically inactive but could move into employment with appropriate support.

Contract Information

Buyer – NHS Dorset Integrated Care Board (on behalf of NHS Dorset, NHS Somerset, and NHS Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire)

Deadline – 28 August 2026, 5:00pm

Contract Value – £834,550 excluding VAT

Delivery Length – 1 November 2026 to 31 March 2027, with the potential option to extend for a further 12 months.

Service Details

The WorkWell service aims to:

  • Provide each eligible participant with a holistic, person-centred work and health assessment.
  • Develop an agreed work plan with tailored actions and goals.
  • Ensure the service is accessible to eligible participants.
  • Deliver effective triage to direct participants to the most appropriate support.
  • Provide support for health-related barriers and onward referrals aligned to individual work plans, with safe handover and continued monitoring.
  • Create a single joined-up pathway into local support services.

The service will operate across four Place areas:

  • Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES)
  • Swindon and Wiltshire
  • Dorset and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP)
  • Somerset

Bidders may submit bids for a single Place area or multiple Place areas.

Evaluation Criteria

The contract will be awarded to the most advantageous offer based on:

  • Quality and Innovation: 75%
  • Social Value: 10%
  • Price: 15%

Key Participation Requirements will be assessed on a pass/fail basis.

Tenders must be submitted electronically in English through the Atamis procurement portal.

  • Supplier Governance Assurance Questionnaire
  • Supplier Response Document
  • Conflict of Interest Form

The opportunity represents a collaborative NHS commissioning initiative to support people with disabilities and long-term health conditions to access, remain in, or return to employment through person-centred assessment and coordinated support across the South West.
