SCE0075 – Short Breaks

Leicester City Council is undertaking a Soft Market Test to explore how providers would like to work with the Council to improve the range of short break opportunities available for disabled children and young people.

This is not a call for competition. The engagement exercise is intended to inform the future development of short break services, with the Council exploring the introduction of a Provider Framework alongside an enhanced online directory through the Local Offer. The Council has confirmed that no decisions have yet been made and that the engagement will help shape the future service model.

Short breaks form part of a continuum of services supporting children in need and their families. The opportunities may include day, evening, overnight, and weekend activities for children and young people, delivered in a variety of settings including:

  • The child’s own home
  • The home of an approved carer
  • Residential settings
  • Community settings

The Soft Market Test will run from 28 July 2026 to 25 August 2026.
