NHS England is seeking a supplier to support a project focused on improving HPV vaccine uptake among unvaccinated school leavers living in areas of high deprivation, with an estimated contract value of £40,000 excluding VAT.
The HPV vaccine provides long-lasting protection against several strains of human papillomavirus associated with cervical, vaginal, vulval, anal, penile and head and neck cancers. A single dose is routinely offered to boys and girls aged 12 to 13 through the School Aged Immunisation Service (SAIS).
NHS England reports that disruption to vaccination delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in reduced overall coverage, with uptake yet to recover to pre-pandemic levels. The procurement also highlights evidence of lower HPV vaccination uptake among socio-economically deprived groups.
The project will examine learning from catch-up activity and use community co-design to develop resources aimed at improving future HPV vaccination uptake among school leavers and addressing health inequalities.
The project has three main objectives:
The supplier will need a robust understanding of community co-design principles and intervention development, alongside experience of producing a ‘How-to Guide’.
The opportunity is identified as particularly suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community and social enterprises (VCSEs).
