Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHFT) is seeking a provider to deliver additional echocardiography capacity to support the reduction of its diagnostic backlog and improve patient access to services.
The Trust reports that current waiting times for echocardiograms exceed the national DM01 standard of six weeks. The procurement is intended to provide additional capacity through a call-off contract, with services delivered in accordance with the Trust’s clinical specification, quality requirements and governance standards.
The contract is expected to commence on 1 April 2027 and will initially run for two years, with the potential for two further one-year extensions.
The opportunity covers the provision of echocardiography services within Gloucestershire.
The contract will operate on a call-off basis, with activity determined by clinical demand, service requirements and commissioning decisions. The Trust has stated that activity levels are indicative and may increase or decrease during the contract period.
No minimum level of expenditure is guaranteed, and the stated contract value represents an estimate based on anticipated activity rather than a commitment to purchase services at that level.
Participation in the procurement is restricted to suppliers registered on the Countess of Chester – Insourced and Outsourced Clinical Services (F/098/CS/25/IB), Lot 1.
The procurement is being conducted under the Provider Selection Regime (PSR) Competitive Process and is subject to the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023.

The notice also confirms that price is not the only award criterion, with the full criteria set out within the procurement documents.
Participation is limited to suppliers registered on Lot 1 of the Countess of Chester – Insourced and Outsourced Clinical Services (F/098/CS/25/IB).
Economic and financial standing requirements, together with technical and professional ability requirements, are set out within the procurement documents.
Successful provision will need to meet the Trust’s relevant clinical, quality, governance and service standards.
The opportunity provides eligible clinical service suppliers with the potential to support GHFT in reducing its echocardiography backlog and improving timely access to diagnostic services across Gloucestershire.
