Contracts for Innovation Cymru – Ending Abandonment After Stroke

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is inviting organisations to develop and demonstrate innovative solutions that improve rehabilitation, recovery and long-term support for stroke survivors across Wales.

The Phase 2 Contracts for Innovation competition is seeking existing technologies, products, platforms, services or rehabilitation approaches that can be adapted or developed to address gaps in post-discharge support.

Solutions should focus on improving access to personalised and continuous rehabilitation and self-management support, including for people in rural, remote and underserved communities or those facing barriers such as transport, digital exclusion and limited service availability.

Projects will be expected to demonstrate evidence around patient and carer outcomes, rehabilitation outcomes, user experience, workforce impact, affordability, sustainability and potential for wider adoption.

The £300,000 funding allocation will support a portfolio of projects rather than necessarily a single solution. Potential additional funding beyond April 2027 is not currently confirmed.

The opportunity is particularly relevant to organisations with established solutions capable of adaptation and real-world demonstration within NHS Wales. Early-stage concepts requiring fundamental research or initial proof-of-concept development are unlikely to be supported.
