Community Endoscopy Services

NHS Norfolk and Suffolk Integrated Care Board (ICB) has launched a procurement for Community Endoscopy Services to provide diagnostic endoscopy for patients referred by their GP within the Ipswich and East Suffolk locality.

The successful provider will deliver a community-based endoscopy service in consultation with the commissioners, local acute gastroenterology services and GP practices. The contract is intended to support diagnostic services closer to home while operating alongside existing healthcare pathways.

The service will provide the following diagnostic investigations:

  • Oesophago-gastro duodenoscopy (OGD)
  • Trans nasal endoscopy
  • Flexible sigmoidoscopy
  • Colonoscopy

The service must be delivered from a site within the Ipswich and East Suffolk locality.

The contract will operate on an activity-based model, with an indicative activity plan and agreed tariffs.

The ICB has also advised that it expects to complete a review of diagnostic services during 2027. Subject to the outcome of that review, the scope of the contract may be expanded through contract modification under the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023. Potential changes could include wider geographical coverage across the ICB locality, additional delivery sites and an increase in community-based endoscopy activity. The ICB has stated that there is no guarantee that additional activity will be commissioned.
