Children’s Services Governance Adviser (with notice)

The Improvement and Development Agency for Local Government (IDeA), on behalf of the Local Government Association (LGA), is inviting tenders to appoint up to two Children’s Services Governance Advisers to provide specialist governance support to councils across England.

The advisers will work with elected members, senior officers and system partners to strengthen governance arrangements supporting children’s services and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) delivery. The role includes supporting councils responding to organisational and system change, including Children’s Social Care reforms, SEND reform, local government reorganisation, and changing partnership arrangements.

Successful advisers will undertake direct work with corporate and political leaders, including scrutiny committees and corporate parenting boards. The contracts will provide up to 60 days of support through a combination of virtual and face-to-face delivery, with occasional evening commitments.

• Developing networks and relationships
• Contribution to the LGA Improvement Offer

Deadline – 3 August 2026, 5:00pm

Contract Value – £39,000 excluding VAT (£46,800 including VAT)

Delivery Length – 17 August 2026 to 31 March 2027, with the option to extend until 31 March 2028 at the LGA’s discretion.

Participation is reserved for UK suppliers and the opportunity is particularly suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
