Patients across Scarborough and the surrounding area are benefiting from faster access to diagnostic tests following the opening of the new Scarborough Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC).

The purpose-built facility, located at Scarborough Business Park in Eastfield, has been established to provide a range of diagnostic services closer to patients’ homes, helping to improve access to testing and support earlier diagnosis.

The centre began welcoming patients in June, initially offering CT scanning, ultrasound and walk-in blood testing, with MRI, X-ray and cardiorespiratory diagnostics introduced shortly afterwards. A walk-in blood testing service is available Monday to Friday, with no appointment required.

The centre forms part of the national Community Diagnostic Centre programme, which aims to increase diagnostic capacity by providing tests and scans in community settings rather than acute hospitals. The programme is designed to help patients access investigations more quickly while supporting earlier diagnosis of conditions including cancer, heart disease and respiratory illness.

According to York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the additional capacity will help reduce waiting times for diagnostic tests, improve patient experience and provide more convenient access to care for people living across the Yorkshire Coast.

The Trust said the new facility represents a significant investment in local healthcare and will support the long-term sustainability of diagnostic services by increasing capacity away from busy acute hospital sites.
