Alzheimer’s Society Secures Two-Year Partnership

Cadent Gas Limited has awarded a contract to Alzheimer’s Society to deliver a Dementia Support and Energy Safeguarding collaborative project.

The contract has a value of £896,000 excluding VAT (£1,120,000 including VAT) and is expected to run from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2028.

Under the agreement, Alzheimer’s Society will upskill its Dementia Advisers to provide advice and support on:

• Carbon monoxide (CO) safety awareness, including signs and symptoms.
• Priority Services Register (PSR) benefits and registration.
• Energy efficiency advice to help reduce household energy usage.
• Income maximisation, including support to access benefits people may be entitled to.
• Awareness of the Locking Cooker Valve (LCV).
• Awareness of Easy Assist.

The service will be delivered across the Cadent, Wales & West Utilities and SGN network areas.

Direct Award

The contract was awarded through a direct award under the Light Touch regime, with Cadent citing extreme and unavoidable urgency.

According to the award notice, the direct award continues an established partnership from the previous GD3 contract period, enabling uninterrupted support for people living with dementia and those affected by dementia.

Cadent states that Alzheimer’s Society was selected because of its specialist expertise, national reach, established referral pathways, trusted reputation within the dementia community and existing infrastructure developed through the previous contract.

The award notice also states that a competitive procurement exercise was considered unlikely to deliver additional value due to the specialist nature of the service, the investment already made in the partnership and the need to maintain continuity of support for vulnerable customers.

Collaborative Delivery

The procurement is being carried out by Cadent Gas Limited on behalf of Wales & West Utilities Limited and Scotia Gas Networks Limited (SGN), supporting customers across their combined gas distribution network areas.
