A Maidstone nursing home has been placed in special measures after inspectors found serious failings affecting people’s safety, dignity and care.
The Care Quality Commission downgraded Pilgrims Way Care Home with Nursing from good to inadequate following an inspection prompted by concerns about its management. The home supports 48 older people.
Inspectors identified breaches of five regulations covering safe treatment, consent, person-centred care, regulatory notifications and governance. The service was rated inadequate for safety and leadership, while its effective, caring and responsive ratings were assessed as requires improvement.
Concerns included missed medicines, unsafe equipment and failures to recognise or respond to changes in people’s health. Inspectors also found that safeguarding incidents had not always been reported and that staff lacked sufficient training in areas including diabetes, distress and end-of-life support.
CQC has issued warning notices to both the service and its registered manager. The home will now be monitored closely under special measures and must demonstrate rapid, sustained improvements.
